The First United Methodist Church Barnesville, GA |
The United Methodist Women (UMW) is “a community of women whose purpose is to know God: to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ: to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.” Technically all ladies who are member of the church are members of UMW. Ladies can join one of the three groups that comprise our local UMW unit. All of the groups support local, state and global mission projects. They also remember our shut-ins on special occasions, provide compassion meals for families of deceased church members, and enjoy much fellowship together. 1. Susanna Wesley Group – This group was formed in 1990 and is comprised of the “younger” ladies of the church. They meet in members’ homes on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm. Since their founding, the group has given over $10,000 to various mission projects. Interested persons may call Leesa Woodall at 770-358-4516 for more information. 2. Patie Hubbard Group – This group is one of the oldest in the history of the church. Its members are diverse in age, and it is the largest group with 26 members on roll. They meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm, either in members’ homes or in the church Fellowship Hall. Proceeds from the annual spring salad luncheon are used for mission projects as is donated pledge money. Interested persons may call Jan Sherwood at 770-358-4504 for more information. 3. Circle Three
– This group’s members are made up of retired ladies and
those who do not wish to meet at night. They gather on the third Monday
of each month at 3:00pm in members’ homes for Bible study. They
are very active with intercessory prayer. Interested persons may call
